BodyPrayer~Surrender
A solo for two
|
 |
Re-knit the torn fabric of
spirit and nature - Linking modern and ancient, this piece reconnects ritual and
prayer with dance and sound; the rhythms of urban life with the pulse of nature.
 |
International award winning dancer and artist Maria Formolo
and versatile emerging theatre and dance artist Kathleen Arnold, creative
collaborators, have gathered and researched medicine wheels, sacred dance,
and traditional music from around the world from a multi-cultural
perspective to create this piece.
Rich in a wisdom, mischief, archetype and myth,
BodyPrayer~Surrender draws on cultures from around the world including
Maori, Indian, Hawaiian, North American Native, and Western traditions.
|
| BodyPrayer~Surrender is a ritual offering of self. it is poetry,
dance, song, drums, fire, and silence performer with warmth and humour.
We carry in the simplest elements the ageless tools of ritual and
performance. Earth, air, fire, water, and mud mix with ancient and original
music to bring us to an ageless dimension where the ancient soul dwells
and our won ancestral past lives. It is a Medicine Wheel journey
that travels through the hills and valleys of the human soul. Those
who wish to join in at the end of the piece with singing, dancing, or
drumming are invited to do so! |
 |
 |
BodyPrayer~Surrender has been performed at the Edmonton Art Gallery and the
Edmonton First Night Festival. It has been warmly received by audiences
ranging from grandmothers to seven year olds. |
